In response to the letter last week from John Devine, I don’t think I was arguing (TESS, February 22) that we treat boys and girls the same - just that producing one set of toys in pink to target the girls, and one set in blue for the boys, is consumerism gone mad.
And just because an author called Steven Pinker doesn’t think what I think, that doesn’t make either of us right or wrong: it just means we think differently.
As to the statement that I suggested the way forward for Scottish education was to dress boys and girls in “functional clothes,” the phrase should have read “comfortable clothes”, so presumably I don’t need to go on holiday to North Korea - although I bet it must have been an incredible experience for Mr Devine.
