Your report “Raid on IT budgets doubles to #163;100m” (July 30) cites the DfE saying that: “heads... are best placed to make decisions about how to use the resources available to them”. This may not be true of harnessing technology for pupils who have SEN. The scrapping of Becta will result in the loss of a central source of expertise in this area, leaving individual heads having to “reinvent the wheel”.
Concerned colleagues and I who are involved in policy and practice in meeting SEN wrote to Mr Gove, but the reply we received on his behalf failed to address this specific point. Heads need to know where to find this specialist advice in future.
