A big song and dance about vocabulary

Am I alone in my abhorrence of some of the vocabulary creeping into the English language? By all means devise new words when required, but do we really need “incentivise”, as in the teachers “were incentivised by the prospect of building up their pay” (“Why the big song and dance?”, 28 September). What is wrong with “motivated” or “encouraged”? Or in the present climate, cynics might opt for “wooed” or “duped”.
