PEERS will renew their battle with the Government over its new sex education guidance next week with an attempt to force teachers to promote marriage.

The guidance in the Learning and Skills Bill, offered by ministers as a concession over the repeal of Section 28 puts "marriage" and "stable, lving relationships" on an equal footing. But the Bishop of Blackburn, the Right Rev Alan Chesters, head of the Church's Board of Education, has tabled an amendment, insisting that children "learn the nature of marriage and its importance for family life and the bringing up of children".
