Ted Wragg is quite right to ridicule the private finance initiative (TES, May 23). But he is wrong to think that teaching is the only job where anyone but a professional is thought the best person to do it. Recently the head of English Heritage announced that what he was about was not the preservation of ancient buildings, but “change management”. Cue arrival of the men and women in suits. Frankly, it is something that Mrs Thatcher dreamt up and Mr Blair has expanded on.
