The staff at Drighlington infants school in West Yorkshire are going through an unsettled time as the school is being amalgamated at the end of this term. Staff and pupils are surrounded by cases and boxes as they pack up to move into temporary accommodation for a year while a new Drighlington primary is built. Acting assistant head Barbara Badland says everyone’s been living with the threat of job losses for months, but that’s all been settled “and we’re still smiling!” Celebrations are planned to mark the school’s achievements “and the brilliant 15 years’ work of our current head, Myrtle Wilson”. Mrs Wilson retires at the end of this term but is still working flat out to get things sorted. There’s already been a whole-school photograph and an aerial picture, and everyone’s looking forward to a beach party and hot dog disco. All they need to top things off is the Waitrose hamper full of Duchy Originals organic goodies.
The hamper contains a refreshing lemon drink, home-made jams and lemon curd, mouth-watering chocolates and crunchy biscuits.
