Clear expectation in subjects

I want to correct the quote attributed to me in ”`Broad general education’ still too hazy, say heads” (27 April). In fact I believe the key paragraph in Education Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence briefing is: “Once young people have achieved the outcomes of the third curriculum level in a curriculum area they may then be given options to extend their learning and specialise .”

It seems to us that this spells out quite clearly what the expectation is regarding subject choices: implementing this and effective communication with parents are the next big steps. The feedback we have had from parents to date is that there are substantial gaps in both.
