The late Clive Brain was this week awarded a posthumous award for his lifetime’s work in further education.
Association of Colleges chief executive Roger Ward gave the special award to Mr Brain’s widow Gill, principal of Salisbury College in Wiltshire.
Mr Brain died earlier this year in the Southall rail disaster. He was killed travelling to London for an AOC meeting.
The award was the first of a new series of lifetime achievement awards for key figures in the college world.
Future awards will be decided by a special panel of key assessors.
Mr Ward led a minute’s silence for Mr Brain, one of the leading figures in FE over many years.
Mr Ward said: “I think it’s appropriate that the first award for an individual who had made an outstanding contribution to the world of further education should be made to the late Clive Brain.”
Mrs Brain said: “I’m very proud and honoured on Clive’s behalf to accept this award.”
