Capturing the wild

The Natural History Museum hosts the annual Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2011 exhibition, which offers rare insight into natural wonders captured by professionals and amateurs around the world in a group of more than 100 pictures. The top award went to Spanish photographer Daniel Beltra for his piece Still life in oil, which shows eight pelicans rescued from an oil spill.

This varied exhibition will open pupils’ eyes to a world beyond their imagination - and may even tempt them to take photos themselves.

The winner of the under-10s category, Hui Yu Kim from Malaysia, says: “I want people to know that all creatures, even small ones, count. So don’t destroy the forest.”

Tickets are available from the National History Museum website until March 2012, after which the exhibition will tour the UK.
