When Henry VIII ruled this land it was a capital offence to be a Gypsy and, remarkably, his law was not repealed until the middle of the 19th century.
Now, with the expansion of the European Union, the old prejudices have revived. It’s a sad fact that when it comes to studying racial stereotyping, persecution and social injustice, there is no more stark example than that of the Gypsies.
