Hundreds of Scottish pupils will experience the frenetic excitement of the trading room floor in a Careers Scotland competition called Stock Market Challenge.
The competition, in its fifth year, shows how financial markets work and concentrates on skills such as communication, problem-solving, decision-making, team-building and negotiation. S3 pupils work in small teams to trade in shares and foreign currency. Each team starts with Pounds 15,000 in “virtual” cash to invest by analysing the stock market.
Some 150 schools in Dundee, Glasgow and Edinburgh are taking part. This year’s commercial sponsors are Standard Life, BNP Paribas Securities Services, Barclays Wealth and JP Morgan.
