Anita Griffiths is a classroom assistant at St Mary’s C of E primary school in Penzance, Cornwall This week’s nomination for our flowers, champagne and chocolates comes from regular supply teacher Angie Butler, who retired as a full-time teacher five years ago. She says Anita Griffiths is the most able classroom assistant she’s ever met.
Anita is a full-time assistant with responsibility for a special needs group in a 37-pupil class of nine to 11-year-olds who “adore her but respect her totally”, writes Angie Butler. “Anita will take over, do the register, comment and support when appropriate. She is discreet, focused, clever, inventive and such a good influence on the most challenging children.” Pat Thomas, the head’s relief, who takes the class for three and a half days a week, agrees. She says: “Anita is very instinctive. She always knows when to do things without being asked - when to step sideways and when to jump in. She always gets it right.”
