It is time that an alternative view was expressed about the much-publicised plans of the London borough of Newham and its education action zone to revitalise Eastlea community school.

Glossy brochures and slick publicity hide the fact that parents and pupils have received no detailed information and have been denied the opportunity to ask questions.

The curriculum proposals and staffing plans are radical. Staff and pupils are the guinea pigs.

Peter Smith Divisional secretary of Newham Teachers’ Association, London E13
