WHAT on earth is Charles Clarke on about regarding “assemblies” (TES, July 16)? No one, surely, has pressured him to drop them as they give pupils a sense of belonging. What many church leaders, unions and individuals are against is “collective worship”.

If Mr Clarke doesn’t know the difference he should be told and drop the worship bit which spoils otherwise excellent assemblies.
