When we rang Mr Hart for a “sound niblet” about Mr Smith’s cheeky soundbite, he gave us a mouthful: “Peter has broken the most basic of all unwritten laws, namely that one general secretary does not personally criticise another general secretary.
“Peter suffers from the most enormous inferiority complex: he cannot get over the fact that he does not represent a single headteacher in the country. It might be better if Peter employed himself looking after the interests of his members, rather than worrying about the activities of his fellow general secretaries.”
Touche.
