Headless chickens and councils are often the best of athletic pals. Mike McCabe, director of education in South Ayrshire, last Friday added a new dimension for Children in Need.
Allegedly on a sponsored trail - any excuse - the lean-looking director was spied belting round the green in front of Ayr county buildings in a headless catsuit - a genuine big pussy-cat job.
Students of local government will know that McCabe runs an education and leisure department which includes control of the Gaiety Theatre.
Christine Pryce, head of resource development, confirmed the education department was in pantomime mode by appearing in a fetching, if slightly baggy, blue tunic, topped by a bellboy cap. Obviously, only Buttons are left in the budget.
A Pryce associate could not contain herself. “The last time I saw that suit,” she guffawed, “Sydney Devine was wearing it.”
