Anyone who likes Wallace and Gromit will love Animated Adventures, an exhibition now running at the Dick Institute in Kilmarnock until the end of January. Even if you have never seen a Wallace and Gromit film, you will still love the show, which is not being staged anywhere else in Scotland.

The main exhibition room on the ground floor of the institute has been given over to the story of the making of The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and includes six of the actual miniature stage sets used in the film.

“Awesome”, though a much over-used word, really does describe the quality and detail of the haunted house, the vegetable garden and the other sets featured in this exhibition - all of them created by hand.

Complementing these are filmed interviews with a range of the experts involved in making the film, among them the woman who creates dozens of miniature rabbits from modelling clay - and makes it look so easy.

Animated Adventures continues upstairs in the temporary exhibition gallery. There you can learn about the creators of - and the creative processes behind - such animations as A Barbarian Tale, Ghost Warriors and Theme Planet. You can also find out more about the people responsible for all the drawing that goes into a Wallace and Gromit production and see, on film, an artist working on a Wallace sketch.

Interactive computer stations allow visitors of all ages to have a go themselves at adding sounds to an animation, colouring in characters, creating their own mini-films and playing around with titles.
