At key stage 3: Look at the the big changes which took place in Neolithic times, around 10,000 BC. Which were the causes, and what were the results, of putting bread at the heart of people’s diet? Draw a web diagram, with a loaf in the centre, to show links to: crops, towns, laws, population growth, writing, trade.

At key stage 4: What factors have affected the history of bread? Look for examples of: New technology, government action, travel, health, fashion, popular protest.

What other aspects of human life have been affected by each of these factors?
