BUSINESS leaders in the west of Scotland want more hands-on involvement with schools facing difficulty - in a move backed by Glasgow’s education leaders.
Plans by Scottish Business in the Community would set up business advisory boards for schools, particularly those where pupils are at risk of being unemployable. The intention is that there should be a “measurable project” for each school involved.
Business boards would represent a range of local employers and would produce a business plan “engaging the private sector in supporting the delivery of measurable improvement to the overall effectiveness of the school”. The city favours boards for clusters of primaries and their local secondary.
The mark of success would be boosting qualifications, making sure leavers had a “positive destination”, reducing absenteeism and increasing parent involvement.
