As we reported last week, the row is now heading Cullen’s way. And the first person who might be expected to declare an interest is his own deputy, Lord Gill, the Lord Justice Clerk (educated St Aloysius College).
Others with a past are Lords Abernethy (St Mary’s, Melrose), Wheatley (Mount St Mary’s College, Derbyshire), Clarke (Holy Cross High, Hamilton) and Hardie (St Modan’s High, Stirling).
Perhaps the Lord President should also rule out Lord Bonomy, whose surname might not imply such comradeship if it leaks out he went to a North Lanarkshire school, Dalziel High in Motherwell.
It is just as well the case does not involve independent schools - which would find at least 16 of the 33 judges with an interest to declare.
