Your article (‘Comprehensive to set up chain of academies, The TES, December 12) did not properly represent my view on academies. I know that academies are making a huge difference to the lives of disadvantaged youngsters, and doing so with intakes over twice the national average for poorer children.

The heads of academies are driven by a strong sense of social justice, which is precisely why I want to be part of this movement, bringing opportunities to schools and pupils across the Yorkshire and Humber region.

Michael Wilkins, Executive principal, Outwood Grange Family of Schools.
