(Photograph) - Lothian and Borders firefighters showing Inchview Primary pupils their fire safety teaching program on the Internet designed to extend fire safety education in schools. Any school with access to the Internet will be able to use the secure website (or extranet), which provides interactive, structured modules aimed at 10 and 11-year-olds on how to minimise the impact of a fire. For Brian Allaway, deputy fire master with Lothian and Borders Fire Brigade, who thought up the project, the launch of the extranet is the culmination of two years’ work. “You are now less likely to be killed by a fire in the home in this area than anywhere else in Scotland, and our fire education programme has played a major part in that success,’’ says Graham Torrie, divisional officer with the brigade.
