Managing the Internet is a readable booklet that succinctly sets out the issues for schools. The author stresses the benefits of thinking carefully about how and why schools should bring a 21st-century resource (with its frequent upgrades) into what are often 19th-century buildings. She is aware of the need to filter pornography and propaganda, and to prevent monopoly of time and space by knowledgeable or over-zealou users. Elspeth Scott’s ideas about training children and adults to evaluate the results they obtain are useful, as is her practical advice on viruses and copyright.
