Means-tested arrangements for Scottish students are being overhauled for the first time in 40 years, the Government said last week. Dependent students’ grant will extend the allowance to partners and spouses. Eligibility for young students’ bursaries will include under-25s. Students whose parents are not married will have the parent’s partner’s income assessed for student support instead of being treated as coming from a single-parent family. The changes will apply to all further and higher education students from the 2008-09 academic session.
