The Scottish Executive is being pressed by the SNP to take action to reduce the number of 16-19s who are not in education, employment or training (the NEET group).
This follows a literature review for the Executive which showed that the 14 per cent of the age group in this category (around 35,000 young people), had barely changed since 1999 and that “policies have not paid particular attention to meeting the specific needs and issues facing the NEET group”.
The Executive will issue a strategy on NEET youngsters towards the end of the year.
