Twenty A-level students from Sprowston high school, Norwich, will perform Kemp’s Jig at the Globe at midday next Wednesday. The following Wednesday, nearly 200 children will perform it again in Norwich. The piece is inspired by Shakespearean actor Will Kemp, who danced a jig from London to Norwich in 1600. The French Theatre Season has hit London and Stratford-upon-Avon with a programme designed to appeal to a wide range of tastes. It is accompanied by an extensive education programme running through to December including Le Ballon Rouge, a musical play in French and English adapted from the film The Red Balloon and performed by the European Theatre Company. It tours Britain until December 5.

World Mental Health Day is next Friday and, coincidentally, is the 750th anniversary of Bedlam Hospital in London, notorious madhouse and entertainment venue of the uncertified for centuries.
