Theodore Boone
By John Grisham
Hodder and Stoughton
ISBN: 978-1444714487
#163;12.99
This first book for young adults may represent a departure for the master of the courtroom drama, but Grisham sticks to familiar ground in terms of plot. Theodore Boone is only 13 years old but he knows every judge and court clerk, and dreams of being a lawyer. When he becomes privy to a secret, however, he finds himself caught up in a trial earlier than he had anticipated. A page-turner with a moral dilemma is classic Grisham, but will his skills translate into the young adult market? The signs are good.
Blind Fury
By Lynda La Plante
Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 978-1847375476
#163;18.99
She may be better known as the writer behind the Prime Suspect series, but La Plante is the creator of another iconic female detective besides Jane Tennison. This latest instalment in the Anne Travis saga, following 2008‘s Deadly Intent, sees our heroine contacted by a convicted murderer. He offers to help with an ongoing murder investigation, but will only talk to Anna herself. Shades of The Silence of the Lambs, but with La Plante’s characteristic ability to ramp up the tension.
