East Sussex has appointed the following heads: Neil Hunter, formerly head of Senacre Technology College, Maidstone, Kent, is now head of Blatchington Mill School, Hove. Rosemary Tacon, formerly deputy head of Balfour County Infants School, Brighton, is now head of Peacehaven County Infants School. Judith Skinner, formerly head of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic School, Hastings, is now head of Cradle Hill County Primary School, Seaford.

Dr Richard Dawkins, reader in zoology at New College, Oxford, will be the first scholar to take up the new professorship in the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University, which has been endowed by Dr Charles Simonyi. He will retain his status as reader.
