* Regarding David Hanson’s letter (“Why pound;8,000 per year is insulting”, TES, May 6), the National Bursars’ Association has been seeking a national pay scale for support staff for more than two years. There are many anomalies in support staff pay, with some schools paying what they can get away with, while others reward staff fairly.

Our association receives many calls from heads asking what to pay bursars, admin officers etc. A national pay scale would mean they did not need to do this.

We expect to see reappointed Education Secretary Ruth Kelly make progress on this issue, as she indicated she would before the election.
