Pupils set to work on international diplomacy when they attended a mini United Nations summit hosted by independent Portsmouth Grammar School.

Almost 150 secondary school pupils from across the country took part in the event, which was held on board HMS Warrior. Representing 20 countries, the students, including Tom Cleary from Portsmouth Grammar (pictured), attempted to resolve global issues.

The prize for the best overall delegation team went to Manchester Grammar School, which argued that the UK should retain Falkland oil.

Jon Cooper, a co-ordinator from Portsmouth Grammar, said: “Famous for never firing a shot in anger, the Warrior was a fitting venue to begin discussions to solve some of the major issues in international relations.” dm.
