Probationers’ confidence awry

Can Peter Peacock tell me and my fellow probationers who are really worried about our job prospects this year, what he plans to do if the scheme goes awry?

The Education Minister is reported as saying that he will be watching the position very closely (TESS, May 5), and it would be a waste of taxpayers’

money if probationers end up with no jobs after our induction year.

But isn’t it a bit late to intervene then? What can the Scottish Executive or the education authorities do at that point if there are simply more probationers than posts, which looks more than likely?

He says: “You can be confident that I will intervene to ensure it doesn’t go awry.” Well sorry, Mr Peacock, we’re not.
