Bank holiday Monday brought the news that “half of primary pupils are failing in basic tests”.
The Association of Teachers and Lecturers, among other professional associations, has been warning for a long time that an overloaded curriculum, oversized classes and overburdened teachers would result in underachieving pupils.
While children were being herded into classes with 40 or more pupils, and their teachers and parents were being told that there was no research to show that the children would be disadvantaged, their education was indeed suffering.
What more proof do we need than the research by Dr John Marks?
