A dyslexic black woman is using her career as a physicist and space scientist to inspire children, especially black girls, to take up studies and careers in science. Maggie Aderin, of University College London and resident scientist on Children’s BBC, told the ASE conference that she talks to pupils about the many exciting jobs she has had, including working on a missile detection system for the Ministry of Defence and developing a new satellite. Her Tour of the Universe presentation, which gives pupils a fascinating taste of space, was seen by 1,250 children in England last year.
