Nothing excuses a headteacher who cheats on behalf of her pupils. Helen Quick threatened their futures as surely as she destroyed her own. But her scandalous attempt to fiddle their results shows what pressure schools are now under. The scandal should not be allowed to rest with the end of her career. It must force the government to look again at its obsession with school league tables. They are a ridiculously crude tool by which to judge our children’s education.
