Teachers in Essex have warned that they will strike unless the local authority changes its plans for a new pattern of school holidays.

In a consultative ballot, 68 per cent of National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers members who voted backed the action.

The union says the change, to three terms of equal length ,will leave the county out of step with its eight neighbouring local authorities.
