Teachers are being asked for feedback on a free teaching resource about financial responsibility. On the Money has been distributed to schools and published online. Now Education Scotland has launched a survey to determine how useful the resource is.

Equality index
Citizenship
An “education equality index” from Stonewall Scotland will help local authorities show how well they are tackling homophobia and homophobic bullying in schools. The organisation says homophobic bullying is “endemic” in schools. The deadline for submissions to the index is 29 February. The UK-wide results will be announced on 5 July.

It’s the business
Enterprise
Entrepreneur Sir Tom Hunter challenged East Ayrshire secondary pupils to come up with ideas for a product, business or website. Sir Tom was due to judge entries in a Dragons’ Den-style event this week, with the winner receiving pound;1,000, plus pound;4,000 for hisher school. The contest was part of the council’s Business Enterprise Fund programme.
Open letter
History
A 700-year-old letter, believed to have been in the possession of William Wallace, will go on display alongside the famous Lubeck letter. The free exhibition at the Scottish Parliament, 10-31 August, is a joint project with the National Records of Scotland. The Wallace letter has been in England since it was found in the Tower of London in the 1830s.
Peek at pandas
Environment
Eight East Ayrshire pupils got the first glimpse of Edinburgh Zoo’s new pandas, after becoming official adopters of Yang Guang and Tian Tian as part of a modern studies project. The pupils from Loudoun Academy, Galston, were given a preview before the public. They are also raising funds to help sun bears in Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos.
