THE NATIONAL curriculum is due to be revamped by March next year to respond to new technology demands.

India’s curriculum has not changed since 1988 and JS Rajput, director of the National Council for Educational Research and Training, said the education scene had changed radically in the past 10 years.

Education is now expected to contribute to the “all-round development” of students, with the emphasis on applying knowledge with application, and relevance to everyday living.

Mr Rajput said the new syllabus would be more work-orientated and liberal in its treatment of subjects such as sex education - which have been taboo until now.

The views of teachers, parents, students and potential employers in different parts of India will be sought on changes to the existing curriculum.
