The new local economic forums in Scotland, which will include representatives from FE colleges, have been told that they should concentrate on identifying labour market needs and working with education agencies and businesses t close skills gaps. Wendy Alexander, the new Enterprise and Lifelong Learning Minister, addressing an economic conference in Edinburgh on Monday, said:

“Scotland’s dominant competitive weapon is our brainpower.”
