Given that we have a Government committed to the ethos of competition, surely the Training and Enterprise Councils and incorporated colleges should be in competition with each other (TES, August 4)?
Your reports were both interesting and wryly amusing.
If the TECs are against the private sector receiving, in effect, subsidised training, why do they run heavily subsidised courses for businesses?
Self-preservation and protectionism seem to be the paramount motivation here. The myriad of training agencies which have been formed as a consequence of TEC funding can hardly be said to have improved standards. Colleges might well be forgiven for believing this work should rightfully be theirs.
What a chaotic and illogical structure has been created.
