Tony Travers (TES, October 24) highlights the continuing imbalance between primary and secondary funding - 30 per cent more funding for a child moving to secondary school after the summer holiday.

In the light of the Government’s recognition of the vital importance of primary education in raising standards throughout the school system it is astonishing that the White Paper makes no mention of changing expenditure priorities.

Primary teachers and parents need the tools for the job.
