I do hope that the lifelong learning proposals (TES, November 28) encompass the prison population, too. With some “banged-up” 23 hours a day, lifelong learning would reduce the boredom factor and thus the need for cell television, and would probably give us the world’s best educated prison population.

On a more pragmatic note, it would raise prisoners’ hopes of employment when released.
