www.sapere.net (“Philosophy for Children”) for information, training courses, resources, membership and conferences about enquiry and thinking skills in communal settings (sections 23).

www.globalethics.orguk (The Institute for Global Ethics UK Trust) provides theoretical and practical ideas, training and resources from the USAUK. It also runs a pilot Award Scheme, building on the core ethical values that underpin CE and the Human Rights Act, available to schools from January 2003 (1a, 1g, sections 23).

www.timeforcitizenship.com is a dynamic and user-friendly site for primary schools that includes ‘action in the community’ and discussion ideas. (Primary CE.)

www.citizen21.org.uk (Charter 88) is an excellent on-line citizenship resource for educators with particularly good weblinks and political information (sections 1, 2, 3).

www.learn.co.ukyvotedefault.htm (learn.co.uk and Hansard Society) is the website for BBC Newsround Student Mock Elections, and includes practical advice on running elections in schools (1d, 1e, 2, 3).

Search engines (www.google.com is a fast and efficient example) are obviously invaluable. Target areas might include the global aspects of citizenship, charities and volunteering, environmental issues, international organisations (UN, etc), wars, elections, legal and political sites.

For KS34:

www.yourturn.net is packed with teenagers’ views and experiences, including real life stories and supportive information. It focuses on “how to speak out and change things around you” (sections 1, 2, 3).

www.equalcitizen.org.uk looks gender stereotypes, what it means to be equal, decision making, equal pay, work-life balance, caring, bullying and responsibility for contraception. It is a new site set up by the Fawcett Society.

For KS45 pupils: www.thesite.org.uk is an excellent site with user-friendly advice, information, discussion board, case studies and project ideas on many PSECitizenship topics, (especially strong on politics and volunteering). (Sections 1, 2, 3.)

Calling all KS3 teachers: BBC Factual amp; Learning is looking for KS3 teachers from around the country to pilot sections of a new BBC interactive website called Citizen X, which will allow students to explore how they can interact with government and power.
