Wrong view of executive heads

Gary Ellins’ view of executive heads, while understandable, is wide of the mark (“It takes a head to do a head’s job”, Letters, 8 March). School business managers do not do what is regarded as most of an executive head’s role. Since no national job specification exists for this group the area is open to broad interpretation. The small amount of research that exists has found that they have oversight of all facets of school life, but particularly the organisation of learning.
