March 24 brings an opportunity to fast for 24 hours and raise money for children whose lives have been devastated by war. World Vision, a Christian aid agency, has produced a pack for schools explaining how and why they might contribute. Using the stories of a Bosnian boy and Sudanese girl, the materials draw young people’s attention to the avoidable suffering of their contemporaries. There are lesson plans covring six areas of the curriculum, the usual stickers and sponsorship forms, and, most telling, a video that provides thoughtful provocations to reflect on how historic injustices might be overcome.
