More than 500 pupils were excluded every day in 200809 for abusing staff in schools, according to figures released by the Conservative party. On average, 412 pupils were temporarily excluded for threatening behaviour towards an adult, while 91 fixed-period exclusions were made for assault. Four pupils a day were permanently excluded. Schools minister Lord Hill said: “Labour left our teachers without the support they needed to tackle bad behaviour in our schools.”
