The national assessment bank tests have been disastrous for Scottish education. They have made the two-term dash to the Highers into a two-term dash to pass several dozen unit tests, as well as the final exams.
Higher courses are now dominated by revision periods, tests, resits, letters to parents, recording results, missed deadlines and teachers chasing after pupils who have missed their tests.
John Greenlees is quite right to call for the abolition of compulsory end-of-unit tests which don’t contribute anything meaningful to pupils’ learning. I don’t have a single colleague who supports the use of NABs.
