Absurd aim

Your front-page headline “God help us” says it all: the idea of increasing the number of church schools is absurd.

It may well be that some voluntary-aided schools are good, but I doubt very much that it is because they are church schools. Much more likely is the fact that they attract motivated, middle-class parents.

As a arent, a governor, and an atheist, I object to my taxes being used to fund schools whose ethos statement amounts to little more than the encouragement of religious indoctrination.

What parents want are more good schools, not more church schools.
