A further 27 children’s homes are to be investigated by the police in their inquiry into alleged abuse in homes in south Wales, bringing the total to 33.
The inquiry, which centres on alleged abuse including assault and rape in the 1970s and 1980s, was extended after 250 new witnesses came forward. Detective Superintendent Wynne Phillips, head of south Wales CID, said that social services would be informed if any suspects still had access to children.
Many of the homes have already been closed after council reorganisations. South Wales police have set up a helpline for former residents of the homes: 01656 869484.
