As a head in the primary sector in a local authority that is in the bottom 15 per cent of educational funding, I was demoralised to read your article covering the funding of academies (TES, May 18).

If comprehensives felt hard done by because neighbouring academies received twice as much in funding, how should I feel, having achieved consecutive outstanding Ofsteds, giving good value for money on about five times less than some figures quoted last week? When will the Government learn that throwing cash at concerns is not conducive to the effective management of our education system - a system that allows some areas to be grossly over-funded at the expense of others?
