Access to excellence for all, not selection at 14, should be our aim

I applaud the suggestion that school selection take place at 14. But it should be the pupils who (with guidance) do the selecting.

The choice should be either a high-quality academic school or an equally high-quality school providing practical and functional skills alongside general education.

I know which my lower-performing pupils would choose - and gladly.
